Years
Full-time is pre-filled when a year has at least 5.0 credits between September and April (Western's and Ottawa's load, roughly ten one-term courses). Override it if your school defines it differently. Mark your current, unfinished year: it is left out of the Western, Ottawa and Toronto figures (their rules use completed years) but stays in the cumulative totals.
What each number means
OMSAS cumulative
Every graded undergraduate course, converted with the OUAC table and weighted by course length. This is the number OMSAS reports to all six Ontario schools. Pass/credit grades are skipped; a Fail counts as 0.00.
Western (Schulich)
Western looks at your two best undergraduate years that carried a full course load: at least five full-course equivalents (5.0 credits, 30 credit hours) between September and April, with at least three of them at or above your year level. If you took more than a full load, the best five courses are used. The minimum GPA (3.70 for the 2025–26 cycle) must be met in each of those two years separately, so the panel shows both years and whether each clears the bar. We cannot check the "at or above year level" condition from grades alone; you have to. Summer courses are not part of a September-to-April year. Schulich requirements · OMSAS Western page
Ottawa
Ottawa uses the most recent three years of full-time undergraduate study, defined as five courses per term, pooled together with no extra weight on later years. Spring and summer courses completed in those years are included. A year with four courses per term can still count as full-time if the missing courses were made up in another year or in summer, so override the checkbox if that applies to you. Minimum 3.50. Toronto
Toronto uses a cumulative GPA of all undergraduate courses taken on a full-time basis, from any degree or university, with the current year left out because its grades are not available at the deadline. Part-time courses count toward prerequisites but not the GPA. Grades are not weighted by year, and the old weighted GPA (wGPA) no longer exists. McMaster and Queen's
Both use a plain cumulative average of all undergraduate degree-credit courses, every year weighted equally. McMaster's threshold is 3.0 with pass/fail courses ignored; Queen's uses a cumulative GPA and states that it has no full-course-load requirement. OMSAS McMaster page · Queen's methods of selection
How OMSAS calculates GPA
OMSAS only counts university undergraduate credit courses from Canadian and American universities. It includes every attempt at a repeated course, failed and supplementary courses, and courses that were extra to your degree. It leaves out college courses, graduate courses, courses taken as part of a graduate program, MD-program courses, continuing-education and challenge-for-credit work, consecutive B.Ed. courses, naturopathic and chiropractic programs, AP and IB credit, and pass/credit grades (a Fail still counts). Grades from outside Canada and the US are not converted.
Each grade is converted on its own using the scale that matches the grading system printed on your transcript. Then the cumulative average is built from the converted grades and course weights: multiply each converted grade by its weight, add those up, and divide by the total weight. It is explicitly not an average of yearly averages, which is why a heavy full-year course pulls harder than a one-term elective. Assumptions and things we could not verify
- Institution list. Taken from the OUAC conversion-table page on September 6, 2026. Where a university appears under two scales (Toronto, Queen's, Waterloo, Victoria, Windsor, RMC), OUAC applies whichever matches your transcript's grade format; you choose here. Dalhousie is listed under scale 7; an earlier read of the page also showed scale 3, so both are offered.
- Scales 1 and 2 (9-point and 8-point numeric) had no institution mapped to them on the page we read. They are available per-course for older transcripts.
- Decimal percentages (for example 84.5) are compared against the band's lower bound without rounding, so 84.5 on scale 3 converts as 80–84. OUAC does not publish a rounding rule that we could find.
- Full-time. We pre-fill "full-time" at 5.0 credits between September and April, which matches Western's stated 30 credit hours and Ottawa's five courses per term. Toronto's page does not define full-time numerically; it defers to the registering institution, so override the checkbox if your registrar considered you full-time at a lower load.
- Western's "best five courses" when a year exceeds a full load is implemented by keeping the highest-converted courses until 5.0 credits are filled. Western's year-level requirement (three of five courses at or above your year) and the one-pass/fail-course limit are not checked.
- Ottawa's weighting. Verified on the OMSAS Ottawa page (September 6, 2026): the three most recent full-time years are used with no year multipliers, so equal weighting is implemented. The old 1×/2×/3× weighting is gone.
- Toronto's "drop the lowest year" rule: we found no such rule on U of T's current GPA page or the OMSAS Toronto page, and U of T states grades are not weighted by year. It is therefore not implemented. The former wGPA was removed from the 2022–23 cycle onward.
- Minimums quoted (Western 3.70, Ottawa 3.50, Toronto 3.6, McMaster and Queen's 3.0) are from the schools' pages for the 2025–26 or 2026–27 cycles and can change each year.
